one single impression's prompt for this week is thirst, suggested by my bellavia. this seems an ironic word to me after a week of grey skies & a day of being inundated with rainfall (8 inches in one 18 hour period!), after spending time looking over the bay this morning considering the prompt & marveling over the fact that i am surrounded by water, after wandering back inside for a glass of fresh, clean water without a second thought. it seems as though what i thirst for isn't necessarily a drink...{thirst}
surrounded by water
but i only see the reflection
of the sky
as i look up
while my mind on its pilgrimage
can only think:
"i thirst"
the cloud above like a well
& i think:
"for you my soul thirsts"
& so i walk on looking up

Thirst can mean so many things. Nicely done.
Your post reminds me of an article I just read this morning of water quality in the US and how the drinking supply has been continuously contaminated over the last decade by industry, large and small. So it may be with the spiritual side of things... but some would honor it precious to have a clean glass of cold water.
We are born of water, and water forms a mirror that recreates us, sometimes complicating the search. Beautiful poem. I love the tone.
All thirst is not satisfied with glasses of water.
the form of this in itself is captivating! the words make a marvelous read! :)
Adding to Christine's comment: the prediction is that in 5-10 years in at least north America, a gallon of drinkable water will cost more than a gallon of petrol...
Thanks for this, qualcosa--beautifully nuanced!
There are more than one thirst that must be satisfied --- the ones we don't quench determine our fate; indeed our state of being.
This is lovely. Thirst comes in so many shapes.
Hey Ms. diBello, I thirst for gelato! I walk around in Italy with my head high like your poet who is looking for gratification in the sky. Only I am looking for gelato!
You can see I read below too, we love Italy and France. We roamed around there for five weeks a year ago this spring. I am ready to go back. :-)
