tutti i fedeli defunti

a pause from the regularly scheduled blog post...
did you know that the official hurricane season in the atlantic basis lasts until november 30? well it does & Little Man provided quite a surprise this morn:
yep, that's right...latest wind gust here 30+ mph with gale warnings posted for later today & tonight. no direct threat, but still! (spf...how are you doing down there???)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
30 days of thanks...today (see details below) i am especially grateful for my momma & daddy, for their undying love, for all they taught me, for their provisions that allowed me to have a safe & joyful childhood, for their love of their grandchildren...i could never express the full measure of the gratitude i feel for them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
poetry...a poetry offering here...& a special one i wrote for momma & daddy 2 years ago...
slant of light bent low
quiet breath stopped, Home to You
november twilight
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
all souls' daya day of remembering all who have died~~ Early liturgies and inscriptions on catacomb walls attest to the ancientness of prayers for the dead.
i am especially mindful of this, as both my parents died in the month of november. they are heavy on my mind...
from their funeral Masses...
"the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall thouch them. they seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us utter destruction. but they are in peace...as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself. in the time of their visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about as sparks through stubble... those who trust in him shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with in him in love; because grace and mercy are with his holy ones, and his care is with his elect." (Wisdom 3:1-3, 6-9)
Requiem Æternam
Réquiem ætérnam dona eis,
Dómine,et lux perpétua lúceat eis.
Requiéscant in pace.
Amen
Thirty days of thanks is wonderful. I should do it - it would make me more mindful.
Hurricanes...yikes.
Those words form the Masses are lovely - a needed little touch from the divine for me today.
Thanks for the words of support - I can't tell you how much that means!
This is a meaningful souls day post, sorry about your parents, but your tribute to them is beautiful :) probably not an easy one to write, which makes it even more special...
