it's hard to keep a straight face when...

...a certain student (i'm not naming names) translates this~~

"Si, posso incontarLa oggi."

to this~~

"Yes, the possum is in control today."

(for those nodding in confused agreement, the less interesting yet correct translation is "Yes, I am able to meet you today." looks like we need a bit of a vocabulary review tomorrow!)

Delightful! Maybe the Possum really is in control. We just had groundhog day after all.

Hey! I like that translation. Possum's got the right idea. Go slow. Being in control. LOL

The first translation sounded ok to me.

haha!! I used to tutor adults in different languages and its amazing the translations they came up with. you'd think that they'd look at what they've translated and say "hmm....that doesn't sound like a normal sentence, maybe i'm doing something wrong", but i guess not! pitfalls of learning a new language I guess!

Made total sense to me.

Listen to that: "Passerò le mie vacanze..." becomes "I sparrow my holidays..." (sparrow is of course passero, with the a stressed, not the final o...
Just one of the crazy translations I found in my lifelong time as a teacher of English (in Italy)...

I so like that - sounds like what one of those men in black would say into a headset.
Yes - the possum is in control today.
